The prospect of North Queensland in the summer time had driven the thought that it would be nice to go somewhere cold and crisp. Antarctica was the first thought but the realisation came
when the research was done that the logistics involved required large numbers of people and a package type deal. The location was appealing; the reality didn’t sit well with my preference for independent travel. Perhaps the north had something to offer? The obsession with polar bears had been germinated and continued to flourish for the next year.
